Cornish Hill is a small mountain chain in central New York, southeast of Cooperstown, with two main elevations and a highest point of 2,231 feet. Lying between local back roads and near Moss Pond, it sits in a quiet rural landscape of low mountains and small water bodies. Its local significance is tied largely to nearby railroad history. In the late 19th century, the Adirondack Railway, later part of the Delaware and Hudson Railway, passed close by and gave Cornish Hill its name in several rail incidents, including derailments during 1887 and the Great Blizzard of 1888, an 1897 foiled plot against the Adirondack Express, and later debates over grade crossings.
