Pleasant Hill Baptist Church was organized in 1871 at Goat Hill, three miles northeast of Dayton, under the leadership of Rev. Sip Baldwin. Although a new site was purchased, construction materials became bogged down on the property of Isaac Combs, who then donated his land. A small wooden building was constructed and was pastored by Rev. James, and it also served as a schoolhouse. As membership grew, a new building was constructed under the guidance of Rev. W.C.F. Jones. In 1949 a building fund was organized under the leadership of Rev. J.W. Brent. Rev. O.J. Beasley became pastor in 1955, and construction of a new building began; the first service was held in February 1958. The building cost $16,200 and was paid off in four years. In 1983, under the leadership of Rev. Amos I. Horton, the facilities were expanded to include a pastor's study, finance room, cafeteria, fellowship hall, and additional classrooms. Membership continued to grow under the leadership of pastors including Rev. A.D. Jones in 1960, Rev. H.J. Harvey in 1992, and Rev. R.H. Gilmore in 1995. Its ministries include senior citizens, women's mission, family night, young adults, praise dancing, and choirs.
