Since statehood, Arizona's history has included many economic shifts, some responding to local booms and busts and others resulting from national and global changes. In the 1920s, the state's five economic bedrocks were formally titled the Five Cs: cattle, copper, cotton, citrus, and climate. The Five Cs can be seen as the state's first attempt to create industry clusters and identify their role in local, national, and global economies. They are still alive today, some more of a force than others, but the economic mix has grown considerably.
