Marie Theresa de la Grande Terre was captured in 1708 by French explorer St. Denis during a raid on a Chitimacha Indian village in Lafourche Parish. She was sold at Mobile to a French officer, Jacques Guedon, and they married in 1721 at Los Adaes. Their descendants settled the Black Lake Community in 1763, and the pioneer families Perot, Trichel, Pardee, Dortlon, and Desadier still reside in this community.
