Dalton, N.Y., in the Livingston County townships of Nunda and Portage, was settled in 1817. B and NYC Railroad service began in 1852. A post office was established in 1856. The name Nunda Station was changed to Dalton in 1880. The Great Dalton Fire occurred in 1943.
