Rosemary Hill Observatory, near Bronson in north Florida and operated by the University of Florida, opened in 1967 as a university observatory supporting both teaching and research. Its facilities include dormitories for extended observing runs. The main telescope, a 0.76-meter Cassegrain reflector built by Tinsley Laboratories and commissioned in 1968, is used chiefly for research such as monitoring active galaxies and photometry of transiting exoplanets. A smaller 0.45-meter Ritchey-Chrétien reflector, refurbished in 1994, is used for instruction. Together, the telescopes embody the observatory’s dual purpose as a training site for students and a center for ongoing astronomical investigation.
