Willshire, Ohio, was founded by Capt. James Riley in 1821 and named for William Willshire. It was the original county seat of Van Wert County. A post office was established in 1823, the first church was organized in 1829, the original public school building was erected in this park in 1848, and the railroad was built in 1876.
