Born in Collinsville, Ross Alexander Collins served as Mississippi’s attorney general from 1912 to 1920 and was elected to Congress in 1920, where he served a total of ten terms until 1943. In 1930, he led the effort to acquire the Otto Vollbehr Collection for the Library of Congress. This rare book collection includes an original Gutenberg Bible. Printed circa 1455, it is one of only three surviving perfect copies on vellum known to exist. Collins died in 1968 and is buried in Meridian’s Magnolia Cemetery.
