The Blockhouse
Military
3
Built about 1940 as the park caretaker’s residence, this building was influenced by County Commissioner D. Graham Copeland to resemble a Third Seminole War blockhouse. Copeland managed Barron Collier's businesses, surveyed Collier County, and located the sites of several Seminole war forts, old trails, and Seminole villages. As county commissioner, he is believed to have developed this park and influenced the design of the building.
