Along War Fork Creek two miles east ran a primeval trail between the Shawnees of Ohio and the Cherokees of east Tennessee. The Indians called it Athiamiowee, the Path of the Armed Ones. It appeared on an English map in 1755 and was followed by Gabriel Arthur when released by Indians in 1674, Thomas Walker in 1750, Christopher Gist in 1751, and Daniel Boone and John Finley in 1769.
