Captain Meriwether Lewis discovered the Great Falls of the Missouri River on June 13, 1805. In 1915, the Montana Power Co. developed power there with a dam and spillway. The falls had a height of 77.8 feet, the dam stood 65 feet high, the spillway was 1000 feet long, the maximum head was 155 feet, and the maximum capacity was 80000 horsepower.
