Pelican Rapids Village was first settled by Harrison Harris in 1869, platted in 1872, and incorporated on May 16, 1882. Its first church, the Congregational church, was organized on May 10, 1882, its first school district, No. 10, on Nov. 17, 1871, and its first post office, Pelican Rapids, on July 8, 1872, with O. A. E. Blyberg as postmaster. The railroad arrived on July 4, 1882. In the surrounding townships, Norwegian Grove was first settled in 1869 by Henry Ongstad, Ole Raade, Jacob Torkelson, Iver Dahl, and Henry Israelson, organized on Jan. 7, 1873, formed Immanuel Norwegian Lutheran on April 28, 1870, organized school district No. 48 on Jan. 6, 1874, and established the Norwegian Grove post office on March 4, 1878, with Haag Back as postmaster. Scambler was first settled in 1868 by Bob Scambler and Peter Small, organized on August 8, 1871, formed Union Church on June 23, 1876, organized school district No. 39 on January 7, 1873, established the Pelican Lake post office on April 2, 1873, with P. S. Peabody as postmaster, and published the Prairie Leaflet from 1879 to 1882. Trondhjem was first settled in 1869 by Knut Pederson and Lauris Hanson, organized on July 7, 1873, formed South Immanuel Lutheran Church in 1872, organized school district No. 73 on July 26, 1876, and established the Stod post office on June 12, 1888, with John O. Ferguson as postmaster. Pelican Township was first settled by John M. Johnson on June 1, 1869, organized on Sept. 5, 1870, formed Ringsacker Norwegian Evangelical Lutheran Church on Sept. 27, 1875, organized school district No. 18 on Oct. 3, 1870, and established the Pelican Rapids rural post office on July 8, 1872, with O. A. E. Blyberg as first postmaster. Dunn was first settled by George Dunn in 1865, organized on March 16, 1880, formed Zion Lutheran on Nov. 30, 1912, organized school district No. 167 on May 2, 1882, and established the Bucks Mill post office on June 16, 1886, with Simeon S. Buck as postmaster. Maplewood was first settled by Peter S. Johnson in 1874, organized on July 26, 1880, formed Maplewood Presbyterian on Dec. 25, 1886, organized school district No. 145 on January 4, 1881, and established the Worden post office on May 11, 1892, with Harrison Worden as postmaster. Lida was first settled by Louis De Pochee in 1871, organized on March 18, 1879, never organized a church, organized school district No. 108 on March 20, 1879, and established the Lida post office on May 26, 1882, with Henry Moore as postmaster. Erhard's Grove was first settled by Alexander Erhard on May 15, 1869, organized on Sept. 24, 1870, formed Bagestvold Congregation Norwegian Lutheran on March 4, 1874, organized school district No. 17 on October 3, 1870, established the Erhard post office on June 19, 1874, with Oren S. Sweet as postmaster, and received its first railroad in July 1882.
