Founded before the mid-1800s, this community was named for early settler L. T. "Uncle Lee" Lawler. Beloved by citizens, he for years leased land free to the community for a school, church, and cemetery. The first school, named for Edward Stevenson, who donated the land, began before 1872. The area is now farm and ranch land.
