During World War II, Naldor P. Berard and Euclide A. Desjarlais were among the men and women who served in defense of their country. Berard, born August 10, 1921, enlisted in the U.S. Navy on July 22, 1942, served as Seaman 1st Class on the U.S.S. Rowan, and died at age 22 on September 11, 1943, when it was torpedoed and sunk during the invasion of Salerno. Desjarlais, born April 29, 1922, enlisted in the U.S. Navy on July 7, 1941, served as Aviation Radioman 2nd Class attached to the U.S.S. San-Gamon, and died at age 23 on April 129, 1945, lost in action in the South Pacific.
