Norseland Community included a Methodist church organized in 1854 and disbanded in 1900, a Norwegian Lutheran church organized in 1858 with the present church erected in 1911, and Scandian Grove Lutheran church organized in 1858 with a stone church erected in 1888. In 1858, the Burkes had a general store and post office that later became a garage, a luxurious restaurant, and a tractor business. In 1875, Anton Olson bought the blacksmith shop, which is still family operated; his son changed the family name to Anthony, and the Anthonys were implement dealers and farmers who made wagons and plows. The Norseland Cooperative Creamery was built in 1896, and in 1939 George, Maurice, and Ray Anthony bought the Burke farmland at auction.
