Edmund Rogers, 1762-1843, served in the Virginia campaign of the War of the Revolution and at the surrender of Cornwallis in 1781. As a surveyor, he joined his cousin Gen. George Rogers Clark in 1783. A year later, he came to the area south of Green River, made the earliest surveys on Barren River and its tributaries, and settled here. He laid out Edmonton in 1800, and his family burial ground is to the south.
