Lyons Ferry State Park in southeastern Washington stands near the confluence of the Snake and Palouse rivers by Lake Herbert G. West, a reservoir created after the Lower Monumental Dam was built in the 1960s. Its name preserves the Lyons Ferry crossing, which carried travelers across the Snake River for more than a century until the Snake River Bridge replaced it in 1968. The site became a modern park soon afterward, with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers building it in 1969 and leasing it to the state in 1971. After changes in management from 2002 to 2015, it returned to the state park system and remains a center for boating, fishing, and swimming.
