Pike Co. Courthouse and Jail
History
2
The Pike County courthouse was erected in 1888-89 by McDonald Bros. and later renovated in 1932-33. It was the scene of Hatfield clan trials for the murders of Tolbert, Randolph, Jr., Pharmer, Alifair, and Calvin McCoy. The defendants were lodged in the adjacent jail, were found guilty, and were sentenced to life in prison except Ellison Mounts, who was hanged on February 18, 1890. The courthouse and jail are part of the Hatfield-McCoy Feud Historic District.
