The Tuckabatchee Masonic Lodge building was erected in 1848 in Crawford, Alabama, then the county seat of Russell County, which included part of present-day Lee County to the north. Crawford had formerly been known as Crockettsville from 1832 to 1843, named after Davy Crockett. Built as Tuckabatchee Masonic Lodge No. 96, the building served over the years as a Masonic meeting place as well as a school and church. The first Masonic meeting there was held in 1848, and the last official meeting of the Masons in the building took place in 1995, when members of Crawford Masonic Lodge No. 863 chose to erect a new, more modern structure on the same property. The old lodge building was then purchased by a local landowner and moved about 100 feet east, where it still stands. Vacant for nearly 19 years and covered in vines and showing signs of decay, it remained unused until 2012, when a newly elected Russell County commissioner proposed forming a community committee to lead a restoration effort. After the building was included in the Alabama Historic Commission's Places in Peril publication in 2012, the owner agreed to let the building and property serve as a county recreation facility. Restoration began in late 2013 and was spearheaded by the Russell County Commission, a committee of local citizens, and members of Crawford Masonic Lodge No. 863, with help from many volunteers and local contractors. Community donations aided the work, and brick pavers were purchased and placed on the front walkway as a sign of public support. In 2015, before the building opened to the public, the downstairs was restored for use as a community center and the upstairs was restored and designated as a museum honoring the building's original purpose as a Masonic lodge. The building was added to the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage on September 6, 1978.
