Cape Bend State Fish and Wildlife Area is a 1,380-acre state-managed tract in Alexander County, Illinois, within Mississippi River bottomland. Although shown as a state park, it functions chiefly as a fish and wildlife area, managed to support habitat and public access. Its landscape includes bottomland hardwood forest, wetlands, and shallow sloughs typical of old floodplain terrain, along with woodland returning on former crop fields. Managed by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources with the nearby Union County State Fish and Wildlife Area, it remains under continuous habitat management and is also used extensively for public hunting. Its importance rests in preserving and stewarding working lowland wildlife habitat.
