Dorothy "DJ" Landis was a teacher, leader, mothering mentor, and mayor of New Cumberland for twenty years who embraced the community as if it were her family. One of the last surviving great leaders of the post-World War II generation serving New Cumberland and Cumberland County, she taught elementary school in the West Shore School District for thirty-two years and influenced the personal growth of many youths. She served on New Cumberland Borough Council for ten years, both before and after serving as mayor for five terms, and was active in numerous organizations and projects including the Olde Town Association, the Apple Festival, and the New Cumberland Public Library. Known as a standout leader who was always available to the public she served and the town she loved, she gave selfless devotion to the community beyond the common call.
