Jackson Lake State Park in western Morgan County, northeast of Orchard, centers on the 2,411-acre Jackson Reservoir, a high plains water-storage project built in the early 20th century to take water from the South Platte River and hold it for summer irrigation. At an elevation of 4,429 feet, the reservoir remains part of the region’s long-established irrigation system while also supporting recreation. The park includes 260 camping spaces and offers fishing, boating, bird watching, hunting, and an OHV track, linking the area’s agricultural water management history with its present role as an outdoor destination.
