In 1934, local businessmen and farmers met in the back of a furniture store in Corinth and created the Alcorn County Electric Power Association, chartered on January 17, 1934, and beginning operations on June 1. With local banker B.F. Liddon as its first chairman, the cooperative's offices were initially in the Liddon Bank building. Recognized as the first rural electric power cooperative in the nation, it served as a model for other rural electric cooperatives.
