Nature
Black Mountain is a 4,048-foot summit in the Cleveland National Forest in the Peninsular Ranges of eastern San Diego County, north of Ramona. Sometimes called Big Black Mountain to distinguish it from the smaller Black Mountain in Rancho Peñasquitos, it is important both as a prominent high point and for its natural habitat. The mountain contains one of the largest remaining tracts of the threatened Engelmann oak, Quercus engelmannii. It also supports a weather radio channel on VHF frequency 162.4000 megahertz for broadcast weather information.
