Bismarck Conservation Area is a 1,188-acre protected bottomland forest in St. Francois County, Missouri, centered on 210-acre DiSalvo Lake near Buford Mountain and southwest of Farmington. The lake was formed in 1944 when Hanna Mining Company dammed the headwaters of the St. Francois River, and the Missouri Department of Conservation acquired the land in 1981, converting an industrial reservoir and surrounding woods into public conservation land. DiSalvo Lake remains the area’s main focus, supporting small-boat use and fishing, while the surrounding land is used for hunting, especially deer, as well as hiking, cycling, horseback riding, and camping.
