Leola Marsh Wildlife Area is a 1,875-acre protected tract in Adams County, Wisconsin, managed by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. State land purchases began in 1956, with a master plan for Leola Marsh and nearby Buena Vista Wildlife Area launched in 1982. The marsh had earlier been reshaped by irrigation and drainage for cranberry growing, timber, and cattle grazing. Today it preserves marsh and scattered woodland habitat, including black oak and aspen, and shelters vulnerable wildlife such as vesper sparrows, northern harriers, short-eared owls, whooping cranes, greater prairie chickens, gray wolves, Blanding’s turtles, and regal fritillary butterflies.
