Founded in 1996 as Denver’s first dedicated home for contemporary art, the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver began in a renovated fish market in Sakura Square and grew through the efforts of Sue Cannon and other supporters. A donated Platte Valley site helped launch a major capital campaign, and the museum opened its current building in 2007. Designed by David Adjaye, the facility uses natural light and city views to connect galleries with the surrounding streets. Without a permanent collection, the museum focuses on temporary exhibitions, changing contemporary work, and public programs, making it a significant center for contemporary art in Denver.
