Arrasmith Field was named to honor W.W. Arrasmith, a citizen, physician, and Legionnaire. The City of Grand Island, Nebraska, carried out the project under Mayor Thos. M. Dillon with councilmen E.C. Kammer, C.H. Justice, J.F. Koehler, Theo. Reimers, J.M. Sorenson, W.F. Krehmke, Carl Hehnke, and W.A. Gross, along with City Engineer W.M. Wheeler, Architect K.H. Gedney, and Paving Engineer Roy M. Green. A citizen sponsor committee included A.F. Buechler, J.A. Donald, George Cowton, E.J. Wolbach, John Torpey, David Kaufmann, Edward Huwaldt, and I.R. Alter. Constructing agents were the Works Progress Administration of Nebraska under State Administrator D.F. Felton, Chief Engineer E.T. Seeley, and Project Engineer J.F. McCarthy, with technical advisors from the U.S. Bureau of Air Commerce including Director E.L. Vidal, Chief Engineer W.M. Aldous, Chief Airports John S. Wynne, Lighting Engineer A.J.C. Pierson, Regional Director F.H. Grieme, and Designing Engineer Paul Morris, in 1936.
