Victoria’s early townscape included its first schoolhouse, its first factory-built fire truck, a 1941 Chevrolet Oren Fire Truck built in Roanoke, Virginia, and delivered to Victoria on the Virginian Railway, and its first pumper, a 1941 Chevrolet. The town’s early infrastructure also included the first bridge across the Nottoway River, below the present Route 49 bridge, before Dan was built, with a wooden deck and railings, as well as scenes of Nottoway Falls Mill and Nottoway Falls Hill. Views of the town show Main Street, originally named Jackson Street, with Sixth Street laid out for or as Main Street, Eighth Street looking north, the corner of Eighth and Main Street, and businesses including Pender Grocery, the Victoria Dispatch printed in the rear of a building, the Sanitary Barber Shop, and Docs Cold Drinks. Other scenes include the main sawmill of the Victoria Supply Company, Incorporated, the Peebles Shopping Center, chain groceries such as Penders and an A and P Store, a deep snowfall in 1940, and the Home Economics and Agriculture Building at Victoria High School circa 1945.
