Samuel Elder lived here at the home of a cofounder of Elder-Redo, now called Eldorado. He served as judge of the county court from 1849 to 1856, school commissioner, collector of Internal Revenue, Justice of the Peace, and farmer. On August 22, 1857, he and his son William, together with Joseph Reed and William Reed, laid out the village of Eldorado.
