George Lovelock, born in Wales in 1824, emigrated to California in 1850. He settled in Butte County in 1851 and began a successful business in Butte Creek Canyon before moving not far from this site to establish a ranch and lumber mill. After business reversals in 1861, he left Butte County, moved to Nevada, and established the town of Lovelock, Nevada.
