Sheriden Cave in Ohio is an Ice Age archaeological site whose entrance was sealed by glacial sediments more than 10,000 years ago, preserving a rare Paleo-Indian deposit dating to roughly 11,000 to 12,000 years ago. After its discovery in 1989 and exposure in 1995, excavations led by Kenneth Tankersley and colleagues uncovered stone and bone tools, including artifacts linked to Clovis culture, along with unusual organic remains such as gourds, human feces, and wood charcoal. The site also contained extinct Late Pleistocene animal remains. Used by people about 11,500 years ago, the cave is an important source for understanding early life in Ohio and the first populations in the Americas.
