French Camp
History
French Camp was established in 1851 by Charles Maisson and a group of French goldseekers after gold was discovered that year in nearby Long Gulch. At one time 300 miners lived here and traded at a store whose ruins lie west of the site. Regular pack trains brought supplies from Columbia and returned with newly mined gold. The Stanley Family came to own this site in 1956.
