The first producing oil well in West Texas was The Texas Company - J.E. Wild A 1 Survey 65 on University Lands in Shackelford County, completed Nov. 9, 1913. It was presented to The Texas Company by the Texas Mid-Continent Oil and Gas Association at the Albany Chamber of Commerce Commemoration Dinner on February 12, 1940.
