Micajah Chamness Sr lived in a log cabin home one hundred yards east of this site and was the first settler in Monroe Township. Historic events here included the first log cabin being built in 1821, the Christian Church being organized in 1831, Monroe Township being formed in January 1836, the first election being held in April 1836, and Alexandria being platted in June 1836.
