Clarksville Cemetery
History
3
First used in the 1830s, this burial site held the family of Clarksville founder James Clark, who is interred here, and its earliest grave is that of his father Benjamin Clark, a veteran of the American Revolution. Other graves include Albert Hamilton Latimer, a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence, Colonel Charles DeMorse, a noted Texas journalist, and the Reverend John Anderson, a pioneer preacher and educator in the area. Known for many years as the Baptist Cemetery, it reflects the town's early settlers and civic leaders.
