Brave soldiers of the Continental Army died in this building when, by order of General Washington, it was used as a military hospital from Dec. 19, 1777 to Aug. 28th, 1778. Of the 450 men quartered here, 120 died, and 110 of them were buried near the eastern limit of the settlement.
