The first annual Indian Mission Conference of the Methodist Church in Oklahoma was held at Riley's Chapel on Oct. 23, 1844, with Bishop Thomas A. Morris presiding. The conference area extended west to the Rocky Mts. and east to the Ark.-Mo. line. Riley's Chapel had been built by the missionary Rev. Thomas Bertholf.
