Chase At Richbourg’s Mill
Military
2
During the American Revolution in November 1780, Colonel Tarleton and his Green Dragoons hunted General Marion. Tarleton encamped at the home of the late General Richardson, but Marion was warned by the widow's son and quickly withdrew to the east of Jack's Creek near Richbourg’s Mill. When Tarleton learned that Marion had slipped away, he gave chase. Marion and his militia stayed just ahead of the Dragoons, fought a series of delaying actions, rode to the head of Jack's Creek, moved down the Pocotaligo River, and escaped to Benbow’s Ferry.
