George Washington Carver, born in 1864 and dying in 1943, rose from slavery to fame as a citizen, scientist, and benefactor and gave the country an everlasting heritage. Ness County honored him and claimed him as a pioneer. The northeast corner of the homestead on which he filed in 1886 stood here.
