The Anacostia Tributary Trail System is a connected network of stream-valley trails in Maryland’s Washington suburbs, centered in Hyattsville where several tributaries meet near Bladensburg. Following protected floodplain parkland, levees, and embankments, it grew from plans proposed in 1967 and 1973, with construction beginning in the mid-1970s and major expansion in the 1990s into about 24 miles of paved off-road trail. Its routes include the Northwest Branch, Sligo Creek, Northeast Branch, Paint Branch, Indian Creek, and Anacostia River trails. The system also preserves local memory, including the Denis Wolf Trail and rest stop, and forms part of major regional and national trail corridors.
