The Adams County House of History served as the county jail house and sheriff's quarters from 1877 to 1955. The stones used to build the jail house were hauled from St. Joseph, Missouri, by oxen and wagon. Harry and Lois Sickler spearheaded the effort to purchase and renovate the House of History in 1969. It now contains many displays of antiques and artifacts that trace the history of Corning and Adams County.
