The Crew of the Yankee Fork Gold Dredge
Industry
The dredge operated 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, using only 3 men per shift. The winch man was in charge, controlling the dredge from his vantage point four stories above the deck. From there he could raise and lower, and vary the speed of the bucket line, operate the swing winches, and raise and lower the spud. His crew was a bow oiler who cared for the two Ingersoll-Rand diesel electric units and a stern oiler who looked after the rotary screen and the stacker.
