Loaf Mountain
Nature
Loaf Mountain is an 11,722-foot summit in Wyoming's Bighorn Mountains, about 20 miles southwest of Buffalo, on the boundary of the Cloud Peak Wilderness and Bighorn National Forest. Its prominent shape is easy to identify in the open high country, especially from the Loaf Mountain Overlook on the Cloud Peak Skyway along U.S. Route 16. Though not exceptionally high by Rocky Mountain standards, it rises sharply above nearby terrain, including Paradise Lake. Its slopes drain into different river systems, and its elevation gives it an alpine subarctic climate with snowy winters, cool to warm summers, and precipitation throughout the year.
