Land for Hochheim Cemetery was donated by Rachel S. Crawford (1806-1879), a pioneer settler in the Hochheim community with her husband, James (1800-1861). She, her husband, and many of their descendants are buried there. The graveyard also contains many unmarked sites where pioneer immigrants who entered Texas through the nearby port of Indianola were interred. Veterans of the Civil War, Spanish American War, and World Wars I and II are also buried there. In use for more than 100 years, the cemetery is an important element in the community's heritage.
