Pass Christian Light was among Mississippi’s earliest lighthouses and stood unusually in the middle of Pass Christian on the town’s main street. Built by Winslow Lewis and first lit in 1831, its 28-foot tower initially used lamps with reflectors before gaining a fourth-order Fresnel lens in 1857. Its central location repeatedly created problems as the town grew, with nearby buildings and later trees obstructing the beam. The Civil War interrupted service when Confederate forces removed the lens, and the station remained dark until 1866. Although restored after the war, it was judged no longer useful, extinguished in 1882, and later demolished.
