David C. Edmiston, a native of Arkansas, came to Texas with his family in 1835. As a young man he served with a frontier defense unit of the Texas Rangers, later served as a Ranger in the Mexican War, and was a soldier in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. He married Rhoda Bowen in 1856 and was the father of eleven children. His Webberville farmstead remains as a visible reminder of the area’s heritage.
