Former site of the Harber Grocery Store
History
2
In the early 1940s, brothers Clifford and Clovis Harber opened a grocery store here. In 1945 Clovis opened a second store, Harber's Supermarket, across the street to the north. Clifford and his wife Virtrice operated Harber's Bi Rite for the next 30 years. After Harber's closed, 6D Grocery was here briefly. Ronnie and Floy Shipp moved Shipp Studio here in 1988. Curves Exercise opened in 2003, followed by Creative Images around 2007. HCTN Properties bought the building in 2018, remodeled it, and it became home to Centerville Co-Works. The small building next door was an ice house and meat locker, where citizens rented space for frozen food before home freezers were common. After that, it was used as storage for Harber's and for a laundromat. It was renovated in 2023 as an event space and home for the Grinders Switch Hour Radio Show.
