Elam Primitive Baptist Church was constituted on March 7, 1830, about two miles northeast of this site, with eight charter members including Elijah Wyatt, the first pastor. In the 1850s the church moved to this location on land given by Deacon James Folmar. The present building was erected in 1906. The church's 150th anniversary on March 9, 1980, honored the memory of nearly 100 families who played prominent roles in the church and community.
