Shawnee State Fishing Lake is a manmade freshwater reservoir in northern Shawnee County, northwest of Topeka, Kansas, distinct from Lake Shawnee in the city’s east side. Built in the late 1960s, it covers about 135 acres and reaches a maximum depth of 25 feet, with its widest point at the southern dam. The lake is managed mainly for fishing and simple outdoor recreation, with boating limited to fishing use, a public boat ramp, regular catfish stocking, and thirteen rock jetties used as fishing piers. Primitive campsites, basic toilet facilities, seasonal shotgun and archery hunting, and the nearby Shawnee County Hunter Education Facility and Shooting Range broaden its outdoor uses.
